MetService is forecasting several frontal weather systems set to hit New Zealand very soon.
The system will begin on Friday with some wet weather.
"The highest rain accumulations for Thursday and Friday are expected over western places," MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said.
"Orange heavy rain Warnings have been issued for Westland, the Tararua Range and Mt Taranaki, while heavy rain watches [are] in place for Fiordland north of Doubtful Sound and Buller around and north of Westport and Tasman west of Motueka."
Starting with a windy Friday, the hardest hit parts of the country will be Marlborough, Wellington and southern Wairarapa.
On Saturday, the North Island will experience wet weather with periods of rain that will eventually spread southwards over the entire island. The South Island will experience periodic showers in the east and south.
Showers may linger in the Fiordland area and coastal Southland, but it will be fine elsewhere, MetService said.
On Sunday, the North Island will experience periods of rain. In the South Island, there will be isolated showers centred mainly in the ranges during the afternoon and evening.
On Monday, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay may experience heavy rain, MetService said. Other parts of the island may experience clouds and occasional showers.
The South Island is expected to be fine, with showers.
Over on the Chatham Islands, showers will slowly turn to rain on Saturday, while on Sunday it will experience a few light showers. On Monday, it's expected to be fine.
