Police have confirmed a person on their mobility scooter has died after a crash in Rotorua on Tuesday morning.
Police said the two-vehicle crash occurred at around 10:20am at the intersection of Amohau St and Tutanekai St and involved a motorbike and mobility scooter.
"Sadly, the driver of the mobility scooter died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
Police confirmed enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
A witness said she saw an elderly man "flip in the air", according to the New Zealand Herald..
"I looked straight up and just saw the guy in the air and the chair to his scooter flying," Hiria Pohutuhutu who was working at Colombus Coffee across the road, told NZ Herald.
"I saw his whole body flip in the air."
