One person has died following a two-vehicle crash in Tūrangi on Thursday evening.
Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 1 at about 6:45pm.
A person was "initially in a critical condition and sadly passed away at the scene", a police spokesperson said.
Another person was moderately injured.
SH1 north of Tūrangi was closed and motorists were urged to avoid the area, as it's expected to be closed for "some time", the spokesperson said.
WorkSafe and the serious crash unit have been notified of the crash.
