Police have named the man who was a victim of a suspected homicide in central Auckland earlier this week as 66-year-old Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok.
"Police and victim support are working with the whānau through the tragedy they have suffered," Det Insp Scott Beard, of Auckland City, said.
Police said officers were called to a property on Celtic Cres in Ellerslie just before 8pm on Monday after "a man [was] found unresponsive at the address".
Det Insp Scott Beard said police were originally treating his death as "unexplained" but on Tuesday it was upgraded to a homicide.
Det Insp Scott Beard said enquiries at the scene and in the nearby area are continuing on Thursday.
"Police continue to appeal to the public for any information that may assist us with our investigation," Det Insp Scott Beard said on Thursday
"Please contact police via our 105 phone service or online at https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105, using Update My Report. Please reference file number 231106/8053."
It comes as police continue to hunt for Kwok's wife Mei Han Chong, 67 and the family car, which have both been missing and haven't been seen since late on Saturday night.
"We are very concerned for the safety and wellbeing of Mei Han Chong," Det Insp Scott Beard said.
"We urge anyone with information on Mei Han Chong's whereabouts, or their blue Kia Rio, registration NJN927, to please contact us."
Police say the search for Chong is more urgent and earlier this week. Det Insp Scott Beard said she could either be a suspect or a victim.
The post-mortem was completed on Wednesday and found he died of "violent injuries" consistent with foul play.
It's believed Kwok died before Sunday afternoon as a result of his injuries.
Chong is described as of Asian descent, small in stature and has short dark grey hair and will likely be wearing glasses.
