Staff at failed online supermarket Supie have been told they will get paid the wages they are owed after the company closed its doors last week.

It comes after the company's 120 workers were called into a meeting on Monday and told they lost their jobs on the spot and would not be paid for their last two weeks of work.

The online food retailer owed $3 million to creditors and went into voluntary administration.

"We are pleased to announce that an anonymous and substantial cash contribution has been paid into Workerly Limited," PwC New Zealand said in a statement.

"This cash contribution was provided on the basis that the full amount is used to pay the employees of the Supie Group of Companies."

"The Administrators expect to be able to pay a substantial portion of all outstanding gross wages and salaries for all staff."

Outstanding holiday pay and other claims against Workerly remain unpaid at this stage.

The Administrators are likely to make the distribution towards outstanding wages and salaries early next week.
