Train services in Auckland have been delayed and cancelled after a fault caused a train to stop mid-journey, blocking one of the two tracks.

On Wednesday morning Auckland Transport said Southern, Eastern and Western line train services were facing disruptions because of the fault.

"Auckland Transport’s (AT) train services have experienced delays and some cancellations this morning due to a fault which stopped the Te Huia train between Britomart and Parnell, blocking one of the two tracks," an AT spokesperson said.

"The fault was reported shortly after 9am and the train is currently unable to move. KiwiRail mechanical staff are attending."

In an update on Wednesday afternoon, AT said the Te Huia train has now been moved and both lines are clear.

"Auckland Transport (AT) and Auckland One Rail are working towards restoring services back to normal," the spoksperson said.

"In the meantime, Onehunga Line services have been suspended until further notice and other lines are still experiencing delays and cancellations. Rail replacement buses are currently in operation for the Western Line and Onehunga Line.

"AT advises train users to keep an eye on the AT Mobile App for further updates."
