Christchurch residents are being warned to avoid a street in Avonhead as armed police surround a property.
Police are responding to an incident at a residential address on Beatrice Place and encouraging a person to come outside of the premises, a police spokesperson said.
Several police cars and an ambulance could be seen entering Beatrice Place at around 6:30pm on Sunday, along Avonhead Road, including undercover vehicles.
Most of the officers at the scene are armed, and road spikes have been placed along the street.
Police have been using a loudspeaker to ask the person inside the property to exit and the police dog unit is also in attendance.
Locals are advised to avoid the area while police resolve the situation safely.
