The family of the man killed at a park in west Auckland earlier this week have grieved his death in a sombre video, according to Indian media reports.
Ramandeep Singh, a security patrolman, was found unresponsive at the Royal Reserve Park in Beauchamp Drive in the Auckland suburb of Massey at around 12:10am on Monday. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.
A 26-year-old man was arrested later on Monday and charged with murder.
Indian media reported Singh was from the village of Kotli Shahpur in Gurdaspur district and moved to New Zealand in 2018 after completing his schooling in India.
It's reported Singh is his parents' only son and his friends found out about his death on Monday (Indian time).
New Zealand Herald reports a video shows a house packed with family members, many holding each other and in tears. The men sit sombrely in a separate room.
It's reported one female relative, who spoke with her eyes closed and barely able to hold her head up, said Singh used to call home every day.
It comes after Singh's employer - Armourguard - confirmed he worked for them.
"It is with deep sadness that Armourguard confirms 25-year-old Ramandeep Singh - a security patrolman working for the organisation via a contractor - was found deceased in Massey, Auckland yesterday morning," Armourguard general manager New Zealand Shane O'Halloran said.
"We send our sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Ramandeep and are offering our full support to them during this difficult time."
Police would like to hear from anyone who was in Royal Reserve Park or the wider area, including in and around Reverie Place, at around the time of Singh's death.
