Police have arrested three people allegedly responsible for a large scrub fire burning on Auckland's Māngere Mountain.
At about 4.30pm, emergency service were notified of multiple fires on the mountain. Officers subsequently found three fires on the hillside.
Members of the public told the police three males had been seen starting them deliberately.
Police have since arrested three males at an address on Kupua Rd.
Four Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) crews were working to put out the blaze on one side of the mountain, along with support vehicles.
"Police are still at the scene assisting FENZ with traffic management and motorists are advised there may be some delays in the immediate area," a spokesperson said.
Huge clouds of dark smoke could be seen surrounding the mountain.
The mountain is one of the largest and best-preserved volcanic cones in the city.
