A person has died in a crash in Ashburton overnight.
Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash on Methven Highway, Allenton at 12:45am Sunday.
Police said the sole occupant tragically passed away at the scene.
The road is now open following a scene examination and an investigation into the crash remains ongoing, police said.
The crash brings the holiday road toll to five.
