Police hunting those responsible for starting a fire at a commercial property in Palmerston North have released two images showing them in the act.

Manawatū Police Detective Sergeant Shelley Ross says two people arrived at the Matipo Lane property in a vehicle at 2:30am on Thursday 30 November.

The passenger broke the window of the building, before the driver lit something on fire and threw it through. Police say they then tossed accelerant on the fire.

The passenger followed this up by tossing a large glass bottle containing liquid into the building.

The fire burned for approximately two hours before it was discovered.

At the time, media reported that Fire and Emergency attended the blaze at an office building and was treating it as suspicious.

Investigators are seeking sightings of the Toyota Echo which had its number plate covered on the night.
