Police appeal for public's help after alleged assault in Hastings led to 24-year-old's death

Hastings Police have begun a homicide investigation after a man died in hospital following an alleged assault at around 3am on Wednesday.   

The 24-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after he was allegedly assaulted in the vicinity of Jellicoe Street and Hood Street.   

The victim was flown to Wellington Hospital where he underwent surgery on Thursday but has since passed away.   

Police are asking anyone from the public who witnessed the alleged assault or anyone who was in the Jellicoe Street/Hood Street area at the time to come forward with any information.  

They are also asking Jellicoe Street residents who may have relevant CCTV footage to share it with police.
