One person is dead after a house was destroyed in a fire in Pukekohe, south of Auckland.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) communications shift manager Ryan Geen told Newshub multiple calls were received about the single-story Victoria St home just after 6pm on Tuesday.
On arrival, the three dispatched crews found the home well-involved in flames.
The crews called for backup after seeing the size of the fire, with four firetrucks, a specialist command unit and 22 firefighters on scene during the peak of the blaze.
"Two fire crews wearing breathing apparatus went inside on arrival," Geen said.
In an update, police said one person has been confirmed dead.
Inquiries are underway alongside FENZ into both the cause of the fire and the cause of the person's death.
