Man found dead in Lucas Heights, north Auckland believed to have been hit by car

A man found dead on a rural north Auckland road earlier on Friday is believed to have been hit by a car, police say.  

Emergency services were called to O'Brien Rd, Lucas Heights, about 12:30am after a person was found unresponsive.  

Ambulance staff attended and pronounced the man dead at the scene.  

In an update on Friday afternoon, police said it appeared the man was hit by a vehicle and the driver "did not stop and immediately left the scene".

"We are asking for the public's assistance to help us locate the driver or vehicle involved," said Det Snr Sgt Dave Nimmo, of Waitematā East.

"Anyone in the area who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information - including CCTV or dashcam footage - is asked to contact police immediately."
