The road toll for the Christmas holiday period has risen to eight as of Thursday.
Police said the latest fatal crash happened on Wednesday night in Mt Maunganui's Hewletts Rd.
A police statement said on Thursday morning one person died at the scene the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
Police said another person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
