A man has drowned at Ruakākā beach in Northland on Thursday morning.
Police were called to the beach around 11:20am after a man "got into difficulty," a police spokesperson said.
The man was recovered from the water and CPR was performed but he was unable to be revived.
His death will be referred to the Coroner.
Lifeguards patrol Ruakākā Beach throughout the summer and had lifeguards on duty from 10 am onwards.
