Major Auckland road blocked, two injured after stolen police car driven into vehicles at Manukau intersection

A person has been arrested after allegedly stealing a police car and crashing into two vehicles, which injured two members of the public at a south Auckland intersection on Monday afternoon.  

A police spokesperson told Newshub a person stole the police car on Puhinui Road in Manukau at 1:01pm while officers were attending an "urgent matter".   

"The offender has driven the Police vehicle off at speed," the spokesperson said. 

A few minutes later, the police vehicle collided with two stationary vehicles at the intersection of Great South Road and Alfriston Road.

"Two members of the public suffered moderate and minor injuries during this incident, and were attended to by ambulance staff," the spokesperson said.   

Police confirmed the person was arrested a short time later with the help of a member of the public and are considering charges.

Auckland Transport (AT) said Great South Rd and Alfriston Rd in Manurewa are closed.   

"Consider an alternative route and expect delays for all traffic, including bus services, through this area until cleared," AT said. 

Bus services are also affected while police deal with this incident.  

"Commuters should expect some delays. Bus Stops 2479, 6753, 2292, and 6744 will not be served during this time," AT said.
