A major road in Auckland's Epsom has been closed after a car crashed into a barrier above the Remuera train station.
The white van collided into the metal barrier along the overbridge on Market Road, which emergency services responded to just after 3pm.
Police have closed the northbound State Highway 1 off-ramp following the single-vehicle crash, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
"One person has been transported to hospital in a serious condition," a police spokesperson said.
The train station, which sits between Epsom and Remuera, had several people waiting for trains, with one man telling Newshub the car almost fell onto the "live rail wire".
The man, who recorded videos of the crash, said he was at the station with his family just before 3pm.
"I was recording the train announcement and we suddenly heard a loud crunching of metal," he said. "Trains were still coming as this was happening."
"The car seemed to have hit the live wire as one was swinging and small sparks were visible."
Others waiting for trains were shocked when they saw the scene of the crash.
"Holy shit," one person exclaimed. "Someone has crashed their car."
"Look, look, look, someone just crashed," a child can be heard saying.
In a statement from Waka Kotahi on Thursday, they urged motorists to delay their journey if possible, or to expect delays.
"We are working to reopen lanes as quickly and safely as possible," they said.
