One person has died following a workplace accident at a roadworks site in Whangārei on Monday.
The fatality took place on Abbey Caves Road and was reported to police at around 12:50pm
A St John spokesperson told Newshub they sent two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle.
Several cones surround the scene, and vehicles driving towards it are being told to turn around.
The NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) confirmed to Newshub that none of their workers were on the site.
WorkSafe and the Serious Crash Unit were also advised, with WorkSafe confirming to Newshub that an investigation into the fatality has been opened.
"Please note that WorkSafe has up to 12 months to complete an investigation," a spokesperson said.
