A person was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon after police responded to "concerning comments" being made in Auckland's CBD.
Armed officers earlier swarmed around Albert Park, setting up a cordon in the area. Evacuations also took place in the immediate vicinity.
In an update just before 2:30pm on Wednesday, police said the matter was "safely resolved".
"One person has been taken into custody and charges are being considered," a police statement said.
"All cordons surrounding Albert Park have been lifted and there is no ongoing risk to the public."
Evacuations earlier took place at the park and buildings immediately surrounding the area, including on Princes St and Bowen Ln.
One man who spoke with Newshub said he hasn't been told when he is allowed back inside his building since being asked to evacuate.
"We actually don't know what is happening here," he said.
The man, who lives nearby, said he was told to evacuate from his building after police pulled the alarm.
"I'm just waiting now, I'm just having some ice cream and sitting here."
Newshub captured footage of a police officer going shop-to-shop in the area urging people to evacuate.
"Sorry to interrupt your coffee but I need you to close," the officer said.
Other officers were seen clearing the surrounding footpaths and directing pedestrians away from the area.
Staff members of nearby stores were seen crowding together outside, with several of them making phone calls.
One woman who spoke with Newshub said she was told to pack up everything while studying.
"We were headed into the city to study at our usual spots and we had just set up to eat lunch and then we were told it was time to evacuate," she explained.
"When we had driven into the CBD area, we saw police had blocked off numerous streets coming into the area, so we could tell something was up but not quite what," she added.
The Police Eagle helicopter was also circling above.
Another woman, Mary Lou, is visiting Auckland from Canada and said she was told she can't access her apartment.
"I looked out the window and I could see a police officer standing on the walkway near the park, I thought that was a bit odd that he was there for a while.
"Then I decided to go to the supermarket and do a quick errand. I saw a police car and then on the way back I got blocked and could not get back into my apartment.
"We said we live there and they just said, 'Tough luck, we aren't letting anyone on the street for any reason'," she said.
Officers gave her no information other than to stay away from the area, she added.
Auckland Transport said multiple buses were affected due to what it described as an "emergency services incident".
