A man has drowned at Auckland's Matakatia Bay on Monday evening, making it the second drowning in 24 hours.
A police spokesperson told Newshub emergency services including Police Eagle helicopter and Coastguard were called at around 6:40pm to Matakatia Bay.
Emergency services brought the man to shore from the water but he couldn't be revived.
The matter will be referred to the Coroner.
"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
It comes after police had confirmed earlier on Monday afternoon that a person had died after being swept out to sea at Auckland's Bethells Beach on New Year's Eve.
Three others were also swept out to sea but were rescued by crews from Surf Life Saving New Zealand and only received minor injuries.
