A man has been arrested after a security guard was stabbed at a supermarket in central Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to New World Mt Roskill on May Rd just after 3:30pm, a spokesperson told Newshub.
A Foodstuffs spokesperson told Newshub the security guard had recognised the man as a "known offender" who had previously been trespassed for aggravated assault at the nearby PAK'nSAVE Mt Albert.
"While escorting this person from the store, the offender used a concealed weapon to violently attack our security guard, stabbing him in the arm," they said.
Following the stabbing, the man then reportedly fled north along May Road.
In an update, police said the man has now been taken into custody.
"A 25-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the stabbing of a security guard at a Mt Roskill supermarket today," a spokesperson said in a statement.
"The man has been charged with wounding with intent to injure. He is scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court on 29 January."
The security guard was taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for a deep stab wound which is serious but not life-threatening.
"We take keeping our people and teams safe extremely seriously and we're constantly looking at more ways to assist with combatting crime in our stores," the Foodstuffs spokesperson added.
"We will be ensuring our security guard is well cared for and fully supported in their recovery from this shocking event."
