Summer weather is unfolding in swathes of New Zealand this week, with temperatures in Auckland set to rise to 22C on Wednesday before further climbing to 25C on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Further south, temperatures in Christchurch were set to reach 21C on Wednesday and 25C on Thursday.
"There's plenty of good weather for those wanting to enjoy outdoor activities these holidays," said Mmathapelo Makgabutlane, a meteorologist at MetService.
In Hamilton, the temperature was set to be 22C on Wednesday. That would rise to 26C for Sunday and Monday, MetService said.
And it's a similar story at Blenheim, where Marlborough holidaymakers could expect 23C on Wednesday before climbing to 26C and 27C for Sunday and Monday.
"The new year gets off to a gentle start with a minimal risk of severe weather this week to Saturday, except for possible heavy rain in the western South Island on Thursday and Friday," said MetService.

Bay of Plenty and Taupo
Mainly fine. Isolated showers on Wednesday
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Taihape
Mostly fine. Isolated showers inland clearing on Tuesday night. Scattered showers on Wednesday afternoon and evening, mainly inland, some may be heavy.
Whanganui to Wellington and Wairarapa, also Marlborough and Nelson
Generally fine. Isolated afternoon showers about the ranges on Wednesday.
Buller and Westland
Cloudy periods, with the odd shower.
Canterbury and Otago, except Clutha
Scattered showers at first but becoming mainly fine on Wednesday morning. However, isolated showers developing again on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Clutha, Southland and Fiordland
Cloudy periods. A few showers, mainly about Fiordland, the south coast and Stewart Island.
Chatham Islands
Often cloudy. Occasional showers, especially on Wednesday.
