A person has been rescued after a fire at the Microtel Lodge in Hamilton overnight.
A Fire and Emergency (FENZ) spokesperson said it received multiple calls just after 1am Friday to a fire on the top floor of a three-level building on Ulster Street in Hamilton.
Nine fire trucks and 40 firefighters were sent to the blaze. When crews arrived, there were reports of people inside the building.
FENZ said a thorough search was commenced with one person being found on the top floor of the building. That person was handed over to St John for treatment.
A secondary search was completed and no other people were found to be in the building, FENZ said.
The fire has been extinguished and one truck remains at the scene along with a fire investigator.
FENZ said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
