Another rat was caught at the plagued Countdown store in Ōtepoti/Dunedin South on Thursday morning, pushing back its reopening until the weekend.
Staff also found old rat nests behind cladding in the wall cavity - but no evidence of live nests.
It was originally meant to open on Friday but Woolworths stores' director Jason Stockill reiterated on Thursday the company has been taking action to make sure stores' pest management is working.
"This has included refreshing all of our stores on food safety protocols and procedures, reviewing our internal escalation processes and ensuring we’re working well with our pest control partner, Rentokils."
The rodent-infested shop has been closed for nearly two weeks.
Since then, Woolworths has retrained 90 percent of staff in food safety procedures, Stockill said.
Senior leaders have also visited nearly all stores across Aotearoa and will visit the remainder on Friday.
"We’re continuing to work very closely with Rentokil and NZ Food Safety and we are meeting with them daily to discuss progress," Stockill said.
He again apologised to customers for the "ongoing disruption".
The Ministry of Primary Industries and Woolworths must be confident pest control measures are working as intended before reopening - i.e. no rodent captures or sightings for 72 hours.
Dunedin South's continuing rat infestation comes a day after Woolworths Australia's chief executive Brad Banducci quit following a trainwreck interview with ABC's Four Corners programme.
