A flurry of earthquakes has rattled Taranaki over the last 24 hours with thousands of Kiwis reportedly feeling them.
The shallow earthquakes all occurred at the same location near New Plymouth on Monday evening.
The first quake struck at 5:05pm on Monday at a magnitude 3.7 and a depth of 5km. It struck 10km northwest of New Plymouth, with the shaking described as "light" according to GeoNet's website.
Over 2300 people reported feeling the quake, many of whom said it was weak to light. Five people said it was severe and three others said it felt extreme.
About four and a half hours later, another earthquake struck near New Plymouth.
GeoNet said the quake struck at 9:35pm at a magnitude of 3.7 and a depth of 8km. The quake struck at the same location as the first earthquake earlier on Monday and was also described as "light".
Over 3300 people reported feeling the quake, many of whom also said it was weak to light. Eighty-one people said it was strong and six others said it felt extreme.
Then just 13 minutes later another earthquake struck at the same location. This time it was a magnitude 2.9 with the shaking described as "weak".
GeoNet said it was at a depth of 5km and struck at 9:48pm.
Only just over 400 people reported feeling the quake, many of whom said it was weak to light but two people said it felt extreme.
