Two men have been arrested after armed police swarmed a central Auckland suburb on Thursday afternoon.
Shortly before 1pm, a member of the public reported that they saw a person with what was believed to be a gun inside a vehicle on Great North Road, police told Newshub in a statement.
Two men were inside the vehicle, which was being driven at speed and dangerously around Carrington Rd in Point Chevalier.
Police, using an Eagle helicopter, tracked the vehicle to an address on Herdman St in Waterview.
Police said the two men were arrested without further incident and charges are being considered.
Photos taken by Newshub show at least seven police cars outside Waterview Primary School on Herdman St.
The principal of Waterview Primary School earlier told Newshub there is a "large police presence" outside the school, including armed police.
The principal confirmed to Newshub the school is not in lockdown.
