Many of us will be egg-cited to get out of our rabbit holes this Easter long weekend, but it's looking like it could be one to stay at home and cuddle up with your bunnies.
NIWA principal scientist Chris Brandolino on Thursday told AM the theme for the long weekend weather was "cold".
"We're talking about air coming from the south," he said.
Brandolino added it would also be windy, with gusts 60km, and rainy for parts of the country.
Gisborne and northern Hawke's Bay are expected to cop the brunt of the wet weather.
"Expect some showers if you're having Easter dinner or Easter lunch on Sunday," Brandolino said.
As for popular holiday hotspots, including Coromandel and Northland, the weather is looking "pretty good".
But holidaymakers in the South Island, though, may be in for some "spotty snow".
