One person has died in a two-car crash on State Highway 5, south of Rotorua, on Sunday.
Police said in a statement they were called to the crash in Whakarewarewa at about 5:05am.
A second person has serious injuries.
Police said just after 11:30am the road has reopened.
The crash comes a day after three people died in an "incredibly confronting" crash on State Highway 8 at Pūkaki in Canterbury.
