A person has been left in a serious condition after an assault in Waihi on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say they are still searching for the person responsible for the attack, which took place on Hobson Street at around 3pm.
Staff told Newshub they are working to determine whether a weapon was involved.
"Police were notified of the assault at 3pm and the victim has been transported to hospital in a serious condition," a police spokesperson said.
"Enquiries are ongoing to locate the offender and police are working to determine what has taken place."
Police confirmed no schools in the area were put into lockdown.
