A truck fire on State Highway 1 in South Auckland caused significant delays as many Kiwis prepared to head off for the Easter long weekend.
The incident was reported at around 11:30am on Thursday morning when Fire and Emergency New Zealand responded to extinguish the blaze.
Two of the northbound lanes between Takanini and the SH20/SH1 Link were blocked, but by shortly after 1:35pm the way was cleared and Waka Kotahi NZTA said residual northbound delays would ease.
There were no reports of any injuries due to the fire.
The delays could have meant people travelling north to Auckland Airport to fly away for the long weekend missed their flights.
Air New Zealand said Thursday was going to be the most hectic day of the long weekend, with 54,000 passengers expected to fly on its network.
A separate incident on the SH20 southbound link to SH1 also caused delays between 12:10pm and 12:50pm.
Another breakdown that was blocking the second from left northbound lane on the Auckland Harbour Bridge was also cleared by 12:25pm. Motorists were advised to expect residual delays as the backlog of traffic cleared.
