A worker is shaken after being forced to lock themselves in a backroom during a robbery at a petrol station in south Auckland overnight.
A police spokesperson told Newshub officers were called to the GAS Petrol Station on Coronation Road in Māngere Bridge at around 9pm on Monday after five offenders smashed their way into the store.
The thieves attacked windows using hammers before taking a number of items, including cigarettes.
It's understood a worker locked themselves in a backroom during the robbery.
"The sole employee was uninjured but understandably shaken and support is being provided to them," the spokesperson said.
The group then fled from the scene in a vehicle, which was later found abandoned by police on Crawford Avenue and has since been towed for forensic examination.
Police have confirmed so far, no arrests have been made but officers are working hard to find the thieves.
"Anyone with information that may assist is asked to contact Police via our 105 phone service, quoting job number P058066763. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."
It's at least the seventh Auckland petrol station targeted in the past 10 days. The previous six break-ins targeting petrol stations have happened across the city since March 3 - two aggravated robberies in Western Springs, Manurewa and Green Bay, and burglaries in Papatoetoe, Glen Eden and Remuera.
