The national Anzac Day service at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington has been cancelled due to high winds.
The service was due to begin at 11am but concerns for the safety of veterans and visitors from expected high winds have forced its cancellation, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage said in a statement.
The Atatürk Memorial Wreath-laying Service in Strathmore has also been cancelled.
According to MetService, strong northerlies gusting 100km/h are expected in exposed places in Wellington.
"It is very unfortunate that we have had to cancel today's service due to high winds," said Leauanae Laulu Mac Leauanae, Secretary Chief Executive for Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
The Wellington Dawn Service went ahead as planned this morning, as did other services across the country.
People could be seen standing around wrapped in warm clothing during the service.
A group of pro-Palestine protesters could be seen in the centre of the park just before the service was due to begin.
Eleven people lay on the ground wearing white clothing while a sign behind them read: 'No NZ complicity in war and genocide. Free Palestine.'
