One person has died following a second two-vehicle crash in Northland this afternoon.
The crash took place near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Apotu Road in Kauri just before 3:15pm.
"Tragically, one person received critical injuries and died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
State Highway 1 is closed, and diversions are in place through Saleyards Road and Vinegar Hill Road.
Police have confirmed with Newshub that the crash involved a motorbike.
"The Serious Crash Unit will conduct a scene examination, and motorists are asked to avoid the area," the spokesperson said.
It comes after seven people were injured, including children, in a serious two-vehicle crash in Waipu, Northland earlier on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Cove Road, where two people were in critical condition, and five others sustained serious injuries.
A police spokesperson said the two-vehicle crash on Cove Road occurred at around 1:34pm. St John transferred the patients to Starship and Northland Hospital.
