One person has died following a house fire in Whitianga on Sunday night.
"Emergency services were alerted to the fire on Cholmondeley Crescent at 5:20pm on Sunday," a police spokesperson said.
"Tragically a person was located deceased inside the building."
"A scene guard has been in place overnight, and police will be working with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire."
It comes after a large fire ripped through City Garden Lodge on Parnell's St Georges Bay Road on Sunday afternoon.
Large flames were seen along with plumes of black smoke.
One resident described it to Newshub as smelling like a "Guy Fawke's bonfire".
Fire and Emergency (FENZ) crews have since extinguished the fire.
Crews remained at the scene overnight, working to dampen down hot spots.
A police scene guard remains in place on Monday, where investigations will be taking place to determine the cause of the fire.
