Police have officially named the elderly couple believed to have been killed by an aggressive ram in Auckland.
They were Alfred Helge Hansen, age 82, and Gaye Carole Hansen, age 81.
Police were called to the Anzac Valley Road address in Waitākere before 7:30am on Thursday, after a relative discovered their bodies in a paddock.
Police confirmed the ram was still in the paddock when they arrived and "confronted" police, who shot it dead.
A dead ram was seen beside one of the bodies, according to a Newshub reporter at the scene.
"We can confirm post-mortem results indicate injuries consistent with an animal attack," a police spokesperson said in an update on Friday.
"Police extend our sympathies to their wider family after what has been a tragic incident."
The Hansens' deaths will be referred to the Coroner.
