Fruit and veges are now available at a third of The Warehouse's stores across the motu, after the company expanded its "fresh range" to 10 more locations.
That means fresh produce is now available at 32 of the red shed retailer's 87 stores dotted around Aotearoa.
The Warehouse Group's boss Nick Grayston said the expansion is one way the company is "helping Kiwis in a cost-of-living crisis".
"Fresh fruit and vegetables are essential and everyone should be able to access them at an affordable price," he added.
Grayston said the expansion was a direct result from customer feedback.
"If we can do it, others can too and we call on the whole grocery sector to do more to bring the prices down on core essentials as we head into winter."
He said a basic basket of groceries from The Warehouse is $11 cheaper than their nearest competitor.
Produce sold in stores with the "fresh range" currently includes apples, avocados, bananas, capsicums, carrots, kiwifruit, kūmara, mandarin, onions and potatoes.
The range will be reviewed weekly to ensure seasonal freshness and variety.
The latest stores to sell fresh produce include:
- Ashburton
- Spreydon-Barrington
- Blenheim
- Hornby
- Masterton
- Porirua
- Pukekohe
- Richmond
- Te Awamutu; and
- Tory St.
The latest store additions come about a year after The Warehouse began selling fresh produce in some stores.
