Worker threatened as armed group storms Taupō Mobil petrol station, steals cigarettes

Police are on the hunt for a group of five people who allegedly robbed a Taupō petrol station on Sunday.

The gang entered the Mobil on Johnbrook Crescent at around 5pm armed with weapons and threatened an employee, police said. Police didn't confirm what weapons were used but said they weren't guns.

The group then allegedly stole a number of items, including cigarettes.

Nobody was injured during the robbery.

"If anyone has information which could help us identify and locate the offenders, please contact Police and quote file number 240331/6737," police said in a statement.

"Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."

The incident comes a month after the Motor Trade Association called on the Government to take more action on the escalating number of petrol station robberies.
