The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has reported four earthquakes over the past 24 hours near the Kermadec Islands, northeast of New Zealand.
The first was a 5.4 magnitude shake 44km deep, recorded at 3:26pm on Sunday.
This was followed by a 4.6 magnitude, 123km deep quake at 4:01pm, and a 4.9 magnitude at a depth of 424km at 6:31pm.
These were followed by a much shallower shake on Monday morning when a 5.9 magnitude quake struck just 19km deep at 6:43am.
No countries have reported tsunami threats because of the quakes.
In March 2021, a series of earthquakes with magnitudes as high as 8.1 struck southeast off Raoul Island in the Kermadec Islands, sparking tsunami warnings from New Zealand to Peru.
