One person has died following a large fire in Canterbury on Wednesday morning.
Fire and Emergency (FENZ) crews were called to a blaze just after 2am to the southern end of Burnham Military Camp in the Selwyn District, where multiple people have been injured.
St John said they treated one patient with serious injuries, and two with moderate injuries on Toanui St.
Two rapid response vehicles and three ambulances are at the scene, where large flames can be seen.
Police have confirmed "one person has died" in the fire, which they were called to around 2:10am.
"Two people were transported to hospital in a moderate condition, and one person in a serious condition," a spokesperson said.
A scene guard is in place and enquiries into the circumstances of the fire are ongoing.
Burnham, the largest army base in the South Island, contains several residential units attached to one another - a number of which have suffered damage.
The fire was contained just after 5am but crews remain at the scene.
Crews are also working to put out a large house fire in Canterbury's Rangiora on Wednesday morning.
FENZ received multiple calls just after 4am to a derelict property.
The address, which is linked to the murder of Richard Leman in 2023, is often targeted by arsonists.
It's unknown if anyone is inside the property and if anyone has been injured.
Fire crews remain at the address.
