Five men have been charged amid a major police operation targeting methamphetamine supply in the North Island.

A series of search warrants in Auckland and Northland on Wednesday resulted in the arrests.

"As a result of our investigation under Operation Salmon, we have charged these men with possession of methamphetamine for supply," said Det Insp Albie Alexander, of the National Organised Crime Group.

The men, aged 18, 25, 29 and 57, were now before the North Shore District Court.

"Unlawful activity being committed by organised criminal groups remains a key focus, especially given the harm it has on communities," Alexander said.

Police said about $80,000 in cash, ammunition and cannabis was seized during the search warrants.

Alexander stressed Operation Salmon remained ongoing and further arrests couldn't be ruled out.
