A major rescue operation is underway in the Wellington Harbour after reports a person fell from a ferry on Friday morning.
A large number of boats, including vessels from the Coastguard and police, have been searching the area between Days Bay and the CBD.
Wellington's Westpac Rescue Helicopter has also been monitoring from above.
The Deputy Harbourmaster told AM he was alerted at 6:35am and it was the ferry's first run of the day.
Police say they're "urgently" seeking information to help with identifying the person who was on board the ferry at 6am and is believed to be a Pākehā man in his 40s.
The public can contact police with information by calling 105 and referencing P058830805 as the job number.
