A convoy of gang members are making their way back to Auckland after heading south to Rotorua following the death of Killer Beez member Hone Kay-Selwyn.
Kay-Selwyn was found dead near Taupō after a manhunt was launched for the 31-year-old.
The death was "not suspicious" and was being referred to the coroner, police confirmed on Thursday.
"Police continue to acknowledge the public's ongoing support in the Ponsonby homicide investigation to-date. The investigation team will continue to investigate that matter on behalf of the coroner."
Kay-Selwyn was accused of shooting dead Robert Sidney Horne, 33, on Ponsonby Rd in Auckland on Sunday.
Police earlier said there was no known relationship between the two men.
Horne is being remembered as a "friend to many" in tributes online.
"Police are aware of a movement of gang members between the Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions. We are monitoring these movements but are not aware of any issues at this stage," a spokesperson told Newshub on Thursday.
However, a short time later police said the convoy was now moving back north.
"Police are monitoring the transport of Hone Kay-Selwyn's body between Rotorua and Auckland this afternoon," the spokesperson said.
"Earlier this afternoon, Kay-Selwyn's body was released to a funeral director at Rotorua Hospital. Police are escorting the transport to Auckland.
"We are aware that gang members had earlier travelled south to Rotorua, and we will be monitoring their movements back to the Auckland region."
The spokesperson said there will be police resource deployed where available to monitor the convoy, including the Police Air Support Unit.
"Motorists concerned about any activity they see should report this to police so appropriate action can be taken. If the incident is happening now, please contact 111."
Otherwise, police said any other matters can be reported by calling 105 or making a report online.
