A roadworker crushed by a truck in Remuera on Wednesday night has died in Auckland Hospital on Friday afternoon.
The crash happened at around 10:18pm on Victoria Avenue where new asphalt was being put down, and left the man with critical injuries.
On Thursday, Senior Sergeant Kuhrt Wieneke told Newshub "it wasn't intentional."
"What we know is a large truck rolled down the hill and collected one of the workers here," he said.
"He has been taken through to Auckland City Hospital with some leg and pelvic crush injuries."
In a statement from police on Thursday morning, it was confirmed the truck immediately left the scene after the man was run over.
However, police said they located the vehicle and driver in Papatoetoe.
The crash remains under investigation and police said an examination of the truck will be part of their enquiries.
