The man wanted for the fatal Ponsonby Road shooting has been found dead near Taupō.
Police confirmed Hone Kay-Selwyn, 31, was found dead at a rural property in Broadlands.
The man Kay-Selwyn is believed to have shot has also been named. He was Robert Sidney Horne, who was 33.
Detective Inspector Chris Barry confirmed Kay-Selwyn's death and said no one else is being sought for the shooting.
Detective Inspector Barry also revealed the 31-year-old was a member of the Killer Beez gang.
He added police have been unable to find any relationship between Kay-Selwyn and the victim.
Kay-Selwyn's death is being treated as unexplained and officers are currently at the property investigating.
Det Insp Barry added the gun used in the Ponsonby shooting hasn't been found yet.
The victim, 33-year-old Robert Sidney Horne is being remembered by his family on social media who expressed their "deep sadness" over his death.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Horne following this tragic incident," said Det Insp Barry in a statement
"The family of Mr Horne are understandably devastated at what has occurred and have requested privacy at this difficult time."
Horne was at a bar with a group of people when he was killed.
On Tuesday a warrant was issued for Kay-Selwyn's arrest for the unlawful possession of a firearm.
Det Insp Barry said officers were following up on a report in Taupō when they received a tip-off that Kay-Selwyn was at a property in Broadlands.
They found him dead while investigating. It's unclear exactly when he died, but Det Insp Barry said it was sometime on Tuesday.
