Video has emerged of the moment a Jetstar plane veered off the runway, shortly after landing at Christchurch Airport this morning.
Jetstar flight JQ225 had just touched down when it experienced a steering issue, forcing it to veer off the runway at low speed.
Emergency services rushed to the airport at about 7:45am but no one was injured, and the plane was towed into the gate by airport crews.
The incident has caused widespread delays and cancellations at airports around the country.
Christchurch Airport said the runway has now been carefully inspected and cleaned.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has cleared it for reopening.
Video taken by passenger Atu Ma'afu shows the moment the plane came off the tarmac for a brief period.
A commotion can be heard, with window seat passengers confirming to others what had happened.
"I feel like we were just ...." one passenger started to say, before another replied, "Yeah, we were just on the grass".
Another passenger exclaimed, "What?!"
All the passengers got off the plane safely.
Air New Zealand confirmed seven services bound for Christchurch were impacted by the Jetstar incident.
Those flights were diverted to another airport or returned to where they took off.
It's understood flights were delayed out of Wellington Airport to allow Christchurch-bound flights to land.
Police earlier said they were notified of a plane "sliding" off the runway at Christchurch Airport. Jetstar later confirmed it was a steering issue that forced the plane to veer onto the grass.
