One person has died and others have been injured in a crash between a van and a truck, which has closed a major Marlborough highway.
State Highway 1, between Dodson Street and Lower Wairau Road, near Grovetown has closed, with police advising motorists to delay travel or take alternative routes.
The crash was reported to police at 6:40am on Thursday.
Police said three others had been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
It comes after Hato Hone St John spokesperson earlier told Newshub one patient was in serious condition was taken to Wairau Hospital via helicopter.
Meanwhile, two other patients in moderate condition were taken to Wairau Hospital in two ambulances.
Another two patients in minor condition were assessed and treated at the scene.
The New Zealand Transport agency is also urging motorists to avoid the area and take a detour.
"For southbound road users, turn right onto State Highway 62, left onto Jackson Road, left onto State Highway 6, then right back onto State Highway1. Reverse for northbound road users," the agency advised.
