A number of flights and ferry services have been delayed or cancelled as thick fog shrouds Auckland.

Auckland Airport said 30 domestic regional flights have been cancelled and a further 27 domestic regional flights have been delayed due to the fog.

International flights and main trunk routes to Dunedin and Queenstown have not been affected. Two main trunk flights to Christchurch and Wellington have been affected, Auckland Airport said.

Anyone flying domestically this morning is being told to keep an eye on Auckland Airport’s website for the latest information.

A number of ferry services have also been delayed or cancelled, Auckland Transport tweeted

"Due to the heavy fog compounded with previous sailing delays, all sailings are experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes & some cancellations.

"For timetables and alternative transport options use Journey Planner or AT mobile & Check Live Departures to see when services are running."

MetService is warning it could take a while for the fog to clear with light winds forecast.
