Police are investigating what appears to be human remains that have been unearthed at a Hamilton property.
Police were notified of the discovery on Tuesday afternoon, when the remains were unearthed by an excavator during construction work.
"A scene guard was put in place overnight, and today police will be attending the scene to make further enquiries," Snr Sgt Leo Belay told Newshub.
"Investigation staff will work to determine if the remains are human and how old they are, which may take some time."
Belay said members of the community in Hillcrest should expect to see an increased police presence in the area while investigations are underway.
