A man has been arrested and a homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead in Whanganui.
The woman was found at a property on Fitzherbert Ave just after 7pm on Tuesday.
A 50-year-old man, who was known to the victim, was subsequently arrested.
"Police are still working to establish what has occurred at the address and a scene examination is underway," Det Snr Sgt Brett Humphrey said on Wednesday. "Police do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public."
Victim Support will be providing help to the woman's family, Humphrey said.
"We are unable to comment further at this early stage but will provide an update as soon as one becomes available."
